Taksha Center for Machine Learning and Hydrology (TCMLH)
Introduction
Ongoing research in hydrology and water resources deals with the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, Cloud Computing, and other advances in Information Technology to study surface and ground-water processes, hydrometeorology and watershed response to disturbances, remote sensing, data assimilation, hydrologic modeling and parameter estimation, multi-objective resources planning and management, numerical modeling of solute transport in groundwater, and optimization of conjunctive use of surface water and groundwater.
Areas of Study:
AI & Machine Learning in Water Resource Management
- • Forecasting the effects of climate change on water supply as well as the socioeconomic implications
- • Development of a new class of smart, multi-scale, multi-resolution models and algorithms aimed at supporting simulations for the coordinated use of Climate, Weather and Hydrological Models in the Indian context
- • Leverage the advances in data management, data mining and machine learning methods and embed them in a cloud-based cyber infrastructure to support the development of an end-to-end workflow that executes an atmospheric model and a hydrological model
Surface Water Hydrology
- • Rainfall-runoff modeling and parameter estimation
- • Operational streamflow forecasting
- • Climate variability and land-atmosphere interactions
- • Remote sensing of land surface parameters and processes
Ground Water Hydrology
- • Numerical simulation of groundwater flow and contaminant transport
- • Inverse problems in distributed parameter systems
- • Modeling and optimization of seawater intrusion barriers
- • Modeling of groundwater basins contaminated by pollutants
Water Resources Engineering
- • Conjunctive use of surface water and groundwater for sustainable management of water resources in semi-arid regions
