CIMY Seminar
Integrative Nutrition and Food as Medicine: East Meets West
Advisor | Dilip Sarkar, MD, FACS, CAP – Chair and Advisor, TI/CIMY |
Sponsor | Center for Integrative Medicine and Yoga (CIMY) |
Held | Winter 2009 (Hampton, VA) |
DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this seminar is to provide an integrated understanding of western diet and the Ayurvedic philosophy of digestion and nutrition. While conventional western medicine tells us that we are what we eat, integrative medicine tells us that we are what we digest, what we think, and what we believe. Digestion is a subtle process of mindful eating, with all five senses transforming the food into consciousness. Students will hear how to take food from the realm of physical sustenance to a more sacred level, and then observe the effects on how they feel on the inside, and how they look on the outside. The third session consists of a hands-on Ayurvedic cooking class in a kitchen, culminating with a delicious meal for all students in attendance.
This seminar is designed as a basic introduction to Integrative Nutrition, with no pre-requisites, prior knowledge, or textbook required. It is intended for any person interested in a (w)holistic approach to wellness.
