Abha Gupta, PhD
Dr. Abha Gupta, PhD, C-IAYT, a certified yoga therapist, is a member of the Council of Advisors (CoA) of Taksha’s Center of Integrative Medicine and Yoga (CIMY), and Institute of Yoga Therapy and Meditation (IYTM), two divisions of Taksha Institute. She is also the Editor of Taksha’s “YogaSetu Newsletter (YSN),” www.yogasetu.org, which serves as an information bridge to other Health-related therapies, including Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Allopathy, Neuropathy, etc., and is Chief of the new Taksha Institute Patanjali Award Committee.
She has been teaching free yoga therapy classes in Hampton Roads, Virginia, since 2009. Dr. Gupta is certified as a yoga therapist by the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT). She has also received training in yoga and Ayurveda at Rishikesh, India and in the US from Patanjali Yog Peeth Yoga Foundation, Paramarth Niketan and Dhanvantari Ayurveda Center.
Dr. Gupta has also been a Professor of Education at Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA for the last 25 years. She has conducted research on the impact of therapeutic breathing techniques and mindful breathing intervention on the behavior and academic performance of elementary school children and the writing apprehension of college students. Dr. Gupta has presented this research at multiple international
conferences as well as published it in peer reviewed publications. Dr. Gupta also serves as the Editor of the YogaSetu newsletter, which has subscribers worldwide. Dr. Gupta has addressed a variety of Yoga Therapy Retreats throughout the US, and had the honor of being an invited speaker at the First International Yoga Day in Lisbon, Portugal.
