Anjalee Swamy
“Life should be chiefly service” is the foundational principle upon which Ms. Anjalee Swamy, a Performing Arts Advisor to Taksha, bases her life path and aspirations. “Music is very close to my heart,” she goes on. “Every beat in my heart rings with a tune.” Ms. Swamy began her musical journey with Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi, followed by training in Hindustani classical music under the able guidance of Ustad Vilayat khan and Indira Nalini Sukh. She was a Ghazal singer in the All India Radio, New Delhi, and also hosted TV shows at Delhi Doordarshan, National Network. She gave performances at BBC West Midlands and Birmingham Conservatoire in the UK. Her musical journey and learning in the US has flourished under one of the foremost disciples of Pdt. Jasraj, Pdt. Pritam Bhattachary, and Smt. Gauri Pathare. She is also receiving training in Opera singing from the renowned Opera singer Augusto Paglialunga.
Ms. Swamy performs all over the US with her own band, Bollywood Rhythms, in all genres of musical performance — Asha, Lata, Mukesh, Rafi, Shreya, or Arijit, etc., from the 1950s to current arrangements, such as Geeta Dutt’s ‘Aye Dil Mujhe Bata de,’ Rafi’s ‘Ehsaan tera hoga mujhpar,’ or Arijit’s ‘Kyonki tum hi ho,’ entertaining people and create an aura where music meets soul. She also continues her passion for hosting shows as an RJ at Bharat FM Phoenix chapter for the program “Music with a Meaning,” broadcasting every Friday at 7pm MST on Bharat FM.
Ms. Swamy has old ties with the city of Norfolk, having received her MS degree in Computer Science from Old Dominion University. After this, she worked for American Express and General Dynamics Mission Systems, eventually landing with the State of Arizona as a Project/Program Manager and SAFe Program consultant.
A firm believer in the doctrine of Service, or SEWA, towards fellow beings, Ms. Swamy is currently a part of the worldwide nonprofit organization called SEWA. Among her service interests, is her service to help the Yezdi community, which is at the brink of extinction in Iraq. She is a strong believer in the ancient vedic yoga philosophy of India, spirituality being the guiding factor and sole anchor of my life.
